ABOUT THE SHOW

This exhibition will take place at Gallery 21 in Spanish Village, Balboa Park. It will be juried by Richard Becker of San Diego. All San Diego area artists over 21 years of age are eligible to enter. All accepted work is to be hand-delivered and picked up (no mail deliveries are accepted).

ELIGIBILITY

Open to ALL ARTISTS OVER THE AGE OF 21 who can hand-deliver and pick-up artwork at Gallery 21. Three-dimensional sculptures and two-dimensional wall-hung work acceptable: Painting, Photography, Fiber art, Bas Relief, Prints, Original Digital Art, etc. Submitted work must be original and must not have been exhibited in an Artists Guild exhibition in the past.NO REPRODUCTIONS or GICLEES. No copies of other artists’ works will be accepted.  NO EXCEPTIONS. 

JUROR: RICHARD BECKER

Richard Becker is an elected member of the National Sculpture Society and the SDMA Artist Guild. He has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions and has been a technical collaborator with art institutions including The Getty and The National Gallery London. Primarily a commission sculptor, Becker’s paintings and sculpture span the serious to the playful. His collectors include The Walt Disney Co., 20th Century Fox, The US National Cemetery Administration, various cities, The Scripps Research Institute and The Emmys.

Award winners will be featured on the Artists Guild website.

1st Place - $300 ~ 2nd  Place -$200 ~ 3rd Place - $100 ~ 3 Honorable Mentions

ENTRY FEE

Non Refundable Entry Fee:

SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF ART ARTIST GUILD MEMBERS: $25 application fee for first submission. Each additional submission is a $5 fee up to 5 total images.  

NON-GUILD MEMBERS: $35 application fee for first submission. Each additional submission is a $10 fee up to 5 total images. 

Entry fees must be paid by the entry deadline. Acceptance is not guaranteed. Up to a maximum of three pieces per artist may be accepted into the show.


DATES TO REMEMBER

FEBRUARY 11, Monday – 11:59 p.m. PST– Deadline for Entries

FEBRUARY 25, Monday – Acceptance/Non- Acceptance notification sent by email.

MARCH 12, Tuesday – Hand-delivery of accepted artwork 8:00 am – 10:30 a.m. Deliver to Gallery 21, Spanish Village, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA.

March 17, Sunday – Opening reception for artists and the public from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. 

March 25, MondayEND OF SHOW. All artwork is to be picked up from Gallery 21 from 4-6 pm. We are not mailing artwork back. NO EXCEPTIONS.


APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Entering Your Images:

  • Enter images online at https://www.sdmaag.org/2019-Sculpture-and-Wall-Art-Open-Call. Entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes up to the nearest inch including frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork; submitted images must not include matting or frame. Be sure your images are right-side-up.
  • Guild Members: get a coupon code at Member Coupon Code; you must be logged in on our website to read this page. Use this code to receive special member pricing.
  • Images are required to be smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Images are to be in JPEG format.

  • All artists will receive notification by email after initial jury process is complete. 

All local artists over 21 years of age are eligible to enter. All accepted work must be hand delivered and picked up (no mail deliveries are accepted). Delivery &  pick up location:Gallery 21, Spanish Village, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA.

SIZE LIMITATIONS: Two-dimensional art shall not exceed 40 inches in width and 60 inches in height (including the frame). Gallery-wrapped artwork will be accepted if edges are painted. Wall hung pieces may not exceed 30 lbs. Sculpture bases are available or pieces may be placed on the floor. Sculptures should not exceed 75 lbs. and 6 ft. in height. All art must fit through a 2’6” x 6’6” doorway.

CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE & AGREEMENTS: The following statements constitute an agreement between the artist and The San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild. Any requirements of the exhibit not fulfilled will result in disqualification. No exceptions will be made to these rules.

SALES: Artwork must be offered for sale. The Artists Guild will retain a 35% commission on all artwork sold at this event.  All sales are required go through the San Museum of Art Artists Guild – no private sales are permitted.

The Entry Form must be filled out completely. The information recorded on this Entry Form is considered final and may not be changed.  Prices may not be changed after submission. Work that does not match the image submitted, or which is unprofessionally presented will not be installed.

Two-dimensional art must be appropriately framed, wired and ready to hang. Acetate coverings, brackets, quick-frames, or any type of device leaving exposed glass or Plexiglas will not be accepted. The Artists Guild will exclude any entry that presents unusual installation problems, or is improperly framed.   

The Artists Guild reserves the right to use reproductions of accepted artwork for the purpose of promotion of the exhibit which may include media outlets, poster, mailings, social media, Guild website and the Gallery 21 website.

R E L E A S E   O F   L I A B I L I T Y

By signing the Entry Form, the artist acknowledges that all reasonable care will be taken to safeguard the artwork and the premises and said person accepts that The San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild and its associates, directors, officers and volunteers will not be responsible for any damage, injury, liability, loss or theft should any occur. Insurance for artworks entered in this show is each individual artist’s responsibility.
