Artist's Bio
Catherine Newhart received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in l971 from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Her work has received recognition in the United States, Canada and Europe, including a one-woman exhibit at a major museum (Joslyn, Omaha, NE) and wasacceptance by two major museums for possible future exhibits (Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Illinois and Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, AZ.) She has also exhibited in Toronto and Ontario, Canada, as well as Paris, France. Her Puzzling Universe large sculptures were exhibited at Wyndham's Emerald Plaza, San Diego, CA. Her art has been featured on the Soprano's television show and other venues. Edward Fields of NYC has made large carved tapestries of several of her Plateau (aka Puzzling Universe) puzzle designs.
She has been traveling and working outside Southern California where she spent several years designing and creating custom wall art, limited edition prints, unique 3-Dimensional paper art and original paintings.
She invented and received a utility patent for "Embossits™" which was awarded "Product of the Year" from Dick Blick Company, Galesburg, IL. Several times Embossits™ and the 30 minute instructional video for "Embossits™" innovative techniques and processes for creating 3D hand embossed and cast items in paper, metal and other materials was featured on TV - locally: Channel 10 TV; Nationally on Aleene's Creative Crafts TV program.
1400 of her silkscreens were hung in 700 rooms of the original Intercontinental (now the Marriott) hotel in Sea Port Village, San Diego. Her art remained on the walls for 15 years - 3 remodeling cycles. Her art is in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States including Central Bank, Oakland, CA,First Interstate Plaza, San Diego, CA; IBIS Hotel, Anaheim, CA; JNS, San Diego, CA; Hilton Hetel, Myrtle Beach, S. C.; IBM, Denver, CO; Sobel-Roth, Inc., Houston, TX; Sheraton Inn, Stanford, CT; Golden Valley Health Centeer, Golden Valley, MN; Joslyn Museum, Omaho, NE. She also has art in at least 8 other countries.
