With great sadness, the Artists Guild announces the passing of long-time Guild member Elaine Louise Harvey. 

Elaine was an honor graduate of San Diego State University where she studied Art, Education, and English.  After completing her formal education, she studied with many noted watermedia artists, developing a style of her own, mixing abstraction and realism, enhanced and inspired by the natural flow of her watermedia materials.

She received more than 75 awards in local, national, and international  exhibitions.  She also taught art classes and workshops, served as juror for exhibitions and has been featured in a number of publications and on the cover and editorial page of The Artists Magazine.  She earned the right of Signature Membership in the National Watercolor Society, San Diego Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, and the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, among others.

Recently, the juror of the Artists Guild’s 2022 Fall Membership Exhibition awarded her the third place for her Mixed Watermedia Returning Light. 

Elaine said about her work:

“The sights around me and the images and thoughts in my head guide my hand as I apply the paint, and the flowing paint evokes new images, relationships, and truths which become a part of the art. Each painting is a combination of past experience and present discovery”

Elaine will be greatly missed.  Our condolences go to her husband Stuart and her daughters Kathleen and Laurel, and son Mark.
