John Baldessari, former Guild member and one of the 100 artists celebrated in our centennial book, 100 Artists, 100 Years: A Century of Creativity in San Diego, died January 2 at his home in Los Angeles at age 88.

Baldessari was an influential conceptual artist who helped transform Los Angeles into a global art capital through his witty image-making and decades of teaching there. His conceptual art was infused with a droll sense of humor.He embraced a wide range of mediums: videos photography, prints, sculpture, text-based art, installations and painting.
