Artists Statement
Charlene Mosley’s current series explores the quiet, persistent resilience found in both nature and the human spirit—the instinct to endure, to adapt, and to survive. Through vibrant, textural oil paintings, bright and fluid watercolors, and intricately expressive drawings, Mosley visualizes the wild within us all. Intertwining human forms with elements of untamed wildlife and organic plant shapes, the artist wants to reveal a connection to the primal, emotional undercurrents that connect us to the natural world. Bold hues and layered textures reflect both inner strength and raw vulnerability.
Pollinators seen as fragile, like butterflies—appear throughout her work not only as symbols of delicate beauty, but of astonishing endurance. A butterfly, seemingly ephemeral, survives migration, transformation amidst often hostile environments. Wild animals such as tigers, are a reflection of inner courage, strength and adventure. Snakes are a symbol of taking risk and shedding an old self to adapt and flourish into something bigger. These creatures become metaphors for the hidden resilience we carry, the instincts we suppress, and the wild beauty we often forget exists within us.
Charlene Mosley invites viewers to activate and embrace their inner wild and highlights the importance of the balance between inward looking and outward living.
Bio
Born and raised in Berlin, Charlene Mosley is an Oscar-nominated, San Diego- based fine artist, illustrator, concept artist and muralist. She received her BA in Studio Arts from San Diego State University with a minor in German Studies.

In 2016, Mosley was one of the contributing artists of “Loving Vincent“, the first ever fully-painted, Oscar-Nominated feature film. This opportunity was the artist’s first time working in animation in Poland. Creating over 250 frames of the film while in Poland “was life changing in a way, and a motivation to keep pursuing my passion as an independent artist”, notes Mosley. During the promotional touring and award ceremonies following the films debut in the US, Charlene had gotten to work closely with the Royal Talens Art Supply company which resulted in her becoming one of their ambassadors.

In 2019, Charlene started work as the Creative Artist of international company, Hugo Morton Inc, and underwent extensive traveling to Shenzhen, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, China and various locations in Europe to work on an array of projects. She created concept designs for a WWII film in Prague, storyboards, jewelry display illustrations for Thialh, huge murals, artistic car designs for luxury car shows and all kinds of creative works for the company internationally.

Charlene works as a freelance, independent artist on several projects, such as murals, private commissions, and book illustrations with clients. Mosley has illustrated more than 20 published children's books and coloring books. In addition to that she has created covers and illustrations for various adult literary and research books. Several have won awards, of which three won first and second place, Purple Dragon awards; within their respective categories. She works closely with various art collectors, businesses and authors nationally and internationally, shipping out commissioned paintings as big as 12x8 feet. One long-time client is renowned professional dreamer and powerhouse, author Deedee Cummings, the founder of Make A Way Media and the Louisville Book Festival with which the artist continues to work on illustrating and publishing more diverse children's books annually.

Charlene is also Gallery Assistant Director and Marketing Director of the non-profit organization, East County Art Association, where she enjoys giving back to the community in all kinds of creative ways. She is involved in creating marketing materials, artwork and assists other artist members of the organization in further developing their skills and the tools to find more artist opportunities.

As a muralist, her roster of public and private murals includes locations such as: San Diego State University, Barrio Logan, La Jolla Shores, Horton Plaza, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Lake Forest and Shenzhen, China.

Her personal artwork and theme, "Embrace Your Inner Wild" is created in her San Diego studio, STUDIO 15, at Art on 30th.
