Artist's Bio
RAYMOND BROWNFIELD
Born in Takoma Park, Maryland, and now living in San Diego, Ray Brownfield studied with master printmakers Joyce Brunner and Robert Fritsch. He has worked with Robert Fritsch since the mid-1980‘s, studying life drawing and, for the past 15 years, assisting Robert Fritsch during his lithography classes, explaining the technique and helping students prepare the stone and the printing process.
Ray is a founding member of the 7 Printmakers and has exhibited with them in 16 annual exhibitions since 1990.
In 2008, Ray had a one-person print exhibition, entitled Warning Signs, at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. In early 2010, he participated in an exhibition, Expressions II, with two other printmakers, at the California Center for the Arts.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I enjoy the dramatic qualities that the different printmaking techniques produce. Working within the limits of printmaking, along with its indirect nature, provides surprising results.
