Artist's Statement

As a Plein Air artist I am  inspired by the natural world, its wonder and beauty. With each painting I hope to discover and understand key elements of the location, or subject of interest. Painting is a medium for expressing the nuances, the texture and excitement of a place, and importantly, the subject that captivates the artist's imagination. I am fulfilling my dream to express my creative imagination as a Plein Air painter.

The natural world also inspires me with new curiosities and deep appreciation to conserve its natural beauty. Nature continues to teach us new ways of seeing, appreciating, and preserving this beautiful planet.  I hope to evoke in the viewer similar feelings of peace, joy and wonder.

My early roots and University training in fine art are guiding my professional choices and growth as an artist. As an engineer and artist, I realize there will always be a distance between what is known and what is yet to be discovered. However, eternal boundaries become less opaque when one is creatively engaged with nature. This is the painter’s reward.

Scenes I have portrayed reflect the landscape, coastal areas: including lagoons and bay of the San Diego and California coastline. Also portrayed are scenes of mountains and vistas painted on site in Colorado and Wyoming. Other subject genre include figurative works in watercolor and oil pastel.
