Artist's Bio

I grew up as the oldest child of a military family. Up until I went to college at San Diego State University, we were rarely anywhere more than three years. At San Diego State University, I majored in education with a minor in social science. My master’s decree was in special education. In the late 1960’s, I began taking art classes from an artist who taught oil painting techniques using the hands. For five years I created spontaneous expressionistic paintings using these techniques. During that perod,I often demonstrated for groups. From the mid 1970’s, until I retired in 1999, I focused on teaching my special education students. Upon retirement, I started taking art classes through Palomar College as well as private lessons. The goal was to create a basic art foundation of classical art education. During that same period of time, I taught art to children, grade k-6. This was a special program focusing on the lives and techniques of great masters of art which I developed. I did this for 5 years. Subsequently, I have extended my own education by working with master artist Rassouli, creator of Fusion Art International.

Artist's Statement

Why do I do what I do the way I do it? Studying the lives and techniques of many artists, led me to take formal art classes. After that, I still found my heart was linked to the freedom I experienced working with my hands. Because 90% or more of my work is done with my hands rather than brushes, I feel a connection with the color and canvas. The painting is an extension of my thoughts and feelings. I am inspired to create paintings imbued with a loving spirit of joy and beauty. My desire is to bring to the hearts of those who see them, a vision of color that sings to them. The song in my heart becomes a symphony in paint on the canvas. Those who have seen and purchased my paintings, always comment on the way the color and rhythm connect with them.
