This is a graphite pencil drawing on archival bristol board. The subject matter is a white Night–blooming Cereus which grows in my garden, but flowers very rarely for me, so I wanted to celebrate the event. I imagined it being pollinated by the fabulous Luna Moth. I love putting images in an oriental carpet format as decorative borders are endlessly amusing to me. I usually work in color but was intrigued by the understatement of working without it in this case and find it evocative of silverpoint, a drawing technique of the Old Masters which I have experimented with in the past.
