Kazak Mother
Description
Winner: Second place award at San Clemente Art Gallery, 2009. Selected for exhibition at the Koehnline Museum of Art, International Pastel Portrait Competition, 2009.
The Kazak people are nomads who live in the north of China. I visited the north of China as part of a program to organize student and teacher exchange with Southern California schools. The Chinese language, arts and culture have always fascinated me. This is a pastel painting, using pastel chalk over suede mat board. Beautifully framed in a contemporary dark wood frame.
