As I was walking from a Board meeting at the San Diego Museum of Art, noon bells in the California Building began ringing; they stopped me in my tracks. I decided to capture that feeling in this view of the tower from the Alcazar Gardens.
I stood and enjoyed the song that was originally given it's 30-chime “voice” on Christmas Day, 1946, paid for by Dr. Frank Lowe in honor of his mother, Ona May Lowe, upgraded to a 100-chime carillon in 1967. The carillon can be played by plastic
rolls, as in a player piano, and by a carilloneur at a keyboard.
